In Design Technology we want to entice creativity through a project-based curriculum. We aim to prepare our students with a logical and technical order to produce a project from start to finish. They will learn to research a brief, investigate, design and create their own project. From this process students will be able to problem solve which will provide them with the necessary skills for technological industries beyond school life.
They will analyse and adapt their ideas through researching historic and modern-day products and then explore and apply new practical skills to invent a product which is new, innovative and unique to them. Our aim is to entice intrinsic thought processes where both function and aesthetics are considered naturally, ‘making the functional beautiful’.
In Year 7, we aim for students to gain knowledge on health & safety in the kitchen and workshop settings, and an understanding of the core skills needed to become a competent chef and skilled designer / manufacturer.
In Year 8, students develop deeper knowledge around food & nutrition, and develop a wider range of design and practical skills needed to produce saleable products.
In Year 9, students develop deeper knowledge around the environmental impact of ingredients and develop a wider range of design approaches including iterative design & biomimicry.
