Safeguarding and Child Protection
The Lowry Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all of its students. This responsibility necessitates a child protection policy and robust procedures. Each student’s welfare is of paramount importance. Our Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy can be read here.
Where there are concerns about a child’s welfare, the school will contact appropriate agencies, share information with them and work in partnership with them.
Concerns will be discussed with the family if it will not place the child at risk of significant harm. The child’s view will also be considered in deciding whether to inform the family in some circumstances, particularly where the child is sufficiently mature to make informed judgements. The interest of the child is paramount.
We recognise that some children may be especially vulnerable to abuse.
We recognise that children who are abused or neglected may find it difficult to develop a sense of self-worth and to view the world in a positive way. Whilst at The Lowry, some of their behaviours may be challenging.
We recognise that some children who have experienced abuse may harm others.
We will always take a considered and sensitive approach in order that we can support all of our pupils.
Any deficiencies or weaknesses in child protection arrangements will be remedied without delay.
