Community Events and Fundraising Group bags £1000 from Tesco’s Stronger Starts Scheme

Following the Tesco Stronger Starts vote in local Tesco stores, we are thrilled to announce The Lowry Academy Community Events and Fundraising Group was chosen by Tesco customers to receive a grant award of an amazing £1,000!

Thank you to Tesco and Groundwork UK for their generous donation, together they have provided over £110 million to more than 60,000 projects across Britain!

The Community Events and Fundraising Group was set up in 2022 to make our students become more proactive in the local community and to develop a love for working as part of the community. The group plan to use the grant to organise community and school events providing a number of snacks to the children and families in the local community. They have already arranged fundraising events and volunteering in local charities and organisations, taking part in gardening projects, dementia support groups and a free community cafe. They are working to make a difference and encourage pupils to become active members of the local community for life by helping, fundraising and volunteering.

Club Organiser and English Teacher, Mrs Swift: “We are extremely grateful to the local community for voting for us. Through playing an active role in their own locality, we aim to open our students' eyes to the benefits of working for and in their local community, such as supporting one another, gaining a sense of belonging, practising gratitude and appreciation.”
